The population was 49,708, and in 2000 it increase to 57,585, now in 2008 in again increase 65,757. although sister city like Sunrise and Plantation have reach about 90,000. When in the city early begining it was a jewish settlement and a second home for snowbirds. But now it is mostly populated by West Indians and African American. it still have a sizeable amount of jewish, white and hispanic resident, which live mostly in the inverrary located.
